Woman arrested after boy's tumble dryer death

A woman has been arrested following the death of a four-year-old boy from Derbyshire whose body was found in a tumble dryer, police have confirmed.

Sonny Gibson was found dead at his home in Northcliffe Road, Ashbourne, on July 26 after he was reported missing from his garden.

A 41-year-old woman was arrested on Friday, on suspicion of child neglect, and released on bail pending inquiries, Derbyshire police said.

Media reports named the woman as the boy's mother, Anne Gibson.

Neighbours locally said the boy was believed to have climbed inside the tumble dryer in a game of hide and seek.

An inquest into Sonny's death has been opened and adjourned but details of the post-mortem, which were passed to the coroner, will not yet be made public, police said.
